Atmospheric La Piana dei Castagni in the woods south of Bologna, Emilia Romagna. A friendly holiday base with in easy driving distance of Tuscany.
This part of Emilia Romagna has many sites of great natural beauty – there are 3 national parks within 40 minutes - and is perfect for walkers and cyclists a like. You can spend days exploring the area, perhaps stopping off at a trattoria to sample Bolognese specialties like tortelline, tagliatelle and splendid wild mushrooms and truffles. Local sporting facilities include swimming, fishing and archery
La Piana dei Castagni is open from March to november and with five double/triple bedrooms offers accommodation for up to 11 guests
Each room comes with a full bathroom, satellite television . The delicious breakfast includes local specialities, cured meats, home-baked cakes, honey, jams and local chestnuts (the eponymous castagni).
What to taste:
In the dishes of the Apennine cuisine you can find the tastes and traditions of past-times and festivals.
In the numerous restaurants of the area you can try the specialities of fresh pasta such as tortelloni, tortellini and tagliatelle; as well as typical breads like the mountain “tigella” and locally produced cured meats and cheeses.
